Bible Study to Begin Book of Revelations

A study of the book of Revelation will start Sunday February 5, 2012 for the Sunday evening Bible Study. This is a book of breathtaking majesty and power, and we are looking forward to the encouragement and hope it gives. We live in a spiritual war zone and aware Christians feel this each day. The book of Revelation shows us what is happening behind the scenes in the invisible world and also shows us God's sovereign ruler-ship over all. There is a Lamb upon the throne who is reigning even now and who will definitely triumph in the end! What a wonderful conclusion to the Bible this book is. There are handouts on the back table for all who would like to prepare for the class. This is not required for the class but will certainly enrich your time in the class.

Youth Planning Trip to Creation Museum (UPDATED)

The LEAST group have announced they are planning a visit to the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY (near Cincinnati, OH) and are inviting the Crossroads congregation to participate. The trip will take place in February 2012.

The Creation Museum is a 70,000 square foot state-of-the-art exhibit that brings the pages of the Bible to life.

More information will be coming.

Update: The trip will occur February 18-20, 2012 and all are welcome to accompany the youth. See Annie Ball for more information. Deadline for sign up is January 29, 2012.

Youth Have Laid Down a Challenge (UPDATED)

The LEAST youth group are challenging the adults of Crossroads to a basketball game so do some stretching and maybe remember what that orange ball feels like. The game is scheduled for Sunday January 22, 2012 so you have time for a little practice. Players, cheerleaders, and fans are needed. Sign up if you are interested.

Update: Tip-off for the game is set for 3:00 pm at the Greenville Rec Center but the gym will be open at 2:00 pm for warm-up and practice. Come to play, cheer, or watch and enjoy and there will be a fellowship dinner following the game.

Three New Sunday School Classes Starting

There will be three new Sunday School classes beginning in January 2012.

On Sunday January 15, 2012 Bill Haller will resume the class discussing Christian Contentment.
Ron Beil will start a class on Sunday January 15, 2012 on the topic of Christian Beliefs.
Betsy Edgar will be leading a class for women starting Sunday January 22, 2012 on the Lies Women Believe based on the book of the same name by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. It will probe the depths of women's illusions and delusions of their hopes, fears, failures, and sorrows.

January Senior Saints Luncheon

Truth Project to Start

Fresh Grounds Coffeehouse will be offering a new session of The Truth Project on Tuesday evenings beginning January 17, 2012 and meeting for 13 weeks at 7:00—9:00 pm. The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum designed to build a systematic and comprehensive biblical worldview in the lives of believers. Two Missions Teams Gearing Up

During January 2012 two separate teams from Crossroads will be heading to the mission field.

One team will be returning to the Dominican Republic January 14-21, 2012 to continue work as done in previous years. This team will consist of Paul Sereda, Dave Campbell, Jeanne Bell, Lee Earnhardt, Abe Johnson, Todd Jaussen, Dan Jaussen, Seth Jaussen, Beka Jaussen, Mary Jaussen, and Grace Jaussen.

David Campbell and Matt Courtney will be traveling January 28-February 9, 2012 to El Sembrador, Honduras through World Gospel Mission. The local missionaries in El Sembrador are seeking donations of much needed tools for the mission: several new corded electric drills, drill bit sets, any type of screwdrivers, and good 7 1/4 inch circular saw blades. See Matt or Dave by January 23, 2012 if you are able to donate any of these items.

Please be praying for their safety and that God will use them in a mighty way to further His Kingdom.

It's Time to Ring Some Bells Again

It's that time of year again and the Salvation Army needs our help. As times have gotten tougher, there's more demand on the services they provide to the Greenville area. Their Christmas kettles not only allow them to provide holiday assistance, it also helps provide services throughout the entire year to families and individuals who are experiencing financial difficulties.

We will be manning the kettle at the Greenville WalMart on Saturday December 3, 2011 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Two or more volunteers are needed for each one hour time slot.

The Christmas kettle effort is the Salvation Army's largest fundraising endeavor, accounting for a third of their annual budget.

How to Teach a Sunday School Class

Topics include: how to study for the lesson; how to prepare a lesson; how to capture and keep the student’s attention; and other aspects of

The Power of a Simple Gift

It's time once again to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child presented by Samaritan's Purse. We are now distributing empty boxes for this program. The simple gifts, toys, and other items in the box will bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world. Along with the things you put in, each box will contain an evangelistic message telling the Good News of God's love.

The boxes are available now at the church and are due back by Sunday November 13, 2011 for shipment.

Help Wanted: Sunday School Teachers

We are looking for those who have a heart to see our children come to Christ and to see them grow in their knowledge of the Lord through His Word. We will be hosting a Sunday School Teacher’s Training Seminar on an upcoming Saturday morning, and will be providing teachers with easy to use curriculum to help in all preparations. On Sunday October 2, 2011 at 6:00 pm there will be a congregational prayer meeting instead of Bible Study. This will be the regular practice for the first Sunday of each month. The Elders believe that it is the Lord’s will for our church to give corporate (i.e. group, congregational) prayer a more prominent place in church life. All are urged to plan to attend. It will be exciting to see how God will work in deeper and fuller ways in our midst as we as a congregation obey His call to more fervent prayer.

Do you have loved ones you long to see saved? Do you long to see God glorify Himself in our communities through the gospel going forth? Do you long to see a deeper faith, love, and holiness among us as the people of God? Do you want our Savior Jesus to see the fruit of His sacrificial death on the cross as His church prospers in our day? 2011 Clothing Drive Results

Debbie Weese announced that the 2011 clothing give-away resulted in 166 persons receiving free clothing, up from 59 people last year. Most of the donated items were dispersed. The hot item this year was baby clothes as every single piece was claimed. This is not only a great way to clean out your own closets; it is a gracious hand reaching out to a needy community.

Church Camping Weekend Schedule Coming Together

The annual church camping weekend will be held at Pymatuning State Park Campground in Andover, OH August 13-14, 2011.

Activities will start with a all-church dinner at 5:00 pm on Saturday August 13, 2011. All all are welcome. Bring a dish to share. (Visitors may drive to the campsite to drop off food and passengers, but all vehicles must return to the visitor parking lot. Transportation back to the site will be available.)

A concert by Divine Delay will begin at 7:00 pm on Saturday August 13, 2011 in the campground amphitheater. Bring a lawn chair.

More information on other activities for the weekend will be coming soon.

There will be an important planning meeting on Tuesday July 26, 2011 at 7:00 at the church. At least one member of each camping family is encouraged to attend.

Study of 1 Kings to Start

Sunday July 10, 2011 will begin a new Bible Study on the Book of 1 Kings. The history of Israel is very significant for the Christian today. It shows how God has revealed Himself in the past. It also shows how He continually preserved His Word and a people for Himself as He was preparing for the greatest act of sending His Son into the world. Through this study we will meet many fascinating figures, ranging from great to tragic. Also seen is the faithfulness of God to those who trust in Him, even in the darkest and most confusing times.

Come On In, The Water's Great

Summer Camp Fund

Each summer there are opportunities for young people to hear the gospel, grow in their faith, and even to serve the Lord by serving others. These include summer camp, Creation, and local mission projects such as "His Work, His Way".

For our youth to be active in these events, they need your support. No youth should be prevented from participating due to lack of funds. Please contribute to the Crossroads Summer Camp Fund to enable the church to offer scholarships to our young people.

Community Benefit Concert

A benefit concert for victims of catastrophic weather occurrences will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church (44 South Mercer St, Greenville PA 16125) on Saturday June 18, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Extended Sale for 2011 Yard and Bake Sale

The Women's Ministry Yard and Bake Sale will be a two-day event this year. The sale will take place at the West Salem Grange Hall (60 S Maysville Rd, Greenville PA 16125) on Friday June 17, 2011 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday June 18, 2011 from 9:00 am until done.

The work day will be Thursday June 16, 2011 at the Grange Hall. Workers will be available to sort, price, and place items on tables starting at 9:00 am.

Those donating household items should drop them off on Thursday after 9:00 am.

Baked goods can be brought both days of the sale. No clothing will be accepted.

Report from the Dominican Republic Mission Field

In January 2011 two teams from Crossroads traveled to the Dominican Republic as part of a much larger group to serve the needs of the native population both physically and spiritually. One team consisted of the Jaussen sisters: Beka, Mary, and Grace. Each one has submitted a brief report below of their experiences.

Dear Friends and Supporters,
   This is my third year going on this trip to the Dominican Republic. I can honestly say every trip has been better than the last. The things I have seen on these trips and the way God has helped me grow in my spiritual walk has been unbelievable. I am so thankful to all of you for allowing me to go on these missions! I also encourage each one of you to go on one because they really are life changing and eye opening.
   People always say how much of an impact a missions trip has had on their lives but they never usually explain why. God is working big things down in the DR and I am honored to be a part of it. The people down there are in such a sad state. God really opened my eyes to what is really going on, the Haitian villages down there are a dark, dark place, very scary, and very much a reality check. These villages are very much a part of voodoo and witchcraft and the money they do get out of a day’s work they usually spend it on alcohol. This causes a mass population of children in the villages. There will be a single mother with nine or ten children to take care of. It broke my heart watching these children run around the village, a lot of them related as well, in barely (if any) clothing and having no hope for the future. It is a very humbling experience, and it makes you so thankful to God for the life that He has given us. Being able to come into these people's lives for a week really makes you want to do everything in your power and give them anything they want during the time you spend with them. You just want to pour all your time and love into these people and love is really all they want back from you. It is so awesome to be able to pray over them and watch God work in so many different ways. In one village we were praying for people's needs and praying they accept Christ and also giving out Bibles left and right, it brought tears to my eyes that God gave me such an opportunity to be a part in the Great Commission.
   The organization that we go through is called Meeting God in Missions, and that's really what the goal is in the trip: that you will meet God down in the DR and grow in your relationship with Him through helping others. Some people even go down there not knowing what to expect and find their Christian walk completely turned upside down and heading full sprint in the direction it should go. Why, you ask, does this happen down there? Is it because of the teaching? Although the preaching and teaching is great, I don't agree that this is why. I believe that it is a time of humbling, and I know this is something I need so very much. To spend five days out in the sugar cane fields with Haitians and to come back at night and reflect on it is something that is truly humbling. In the morning we have morning devotions, a time where you get alone with God. A time to spend time with Him and only Him. This is the times out of the trips that are cherished the most. It was a time of deep communication with our Father, a time of deep growth in our relationship with Him, and a time of just sitting before His throne basking in His indescribable holiness. These are the times I am really thankful for and times on the trips that I will never give up.
   Coming back from the DR is what people call an "emotional high" or "mountain top experience" it is a time when you are on fire for God and want to reach everyone, in your school, on your campus, in your life. This is another thing I love about the DR because it gives me a chance to see how dark our world is around us here in the US and how desperate this society is for righteousness. It gives us a perspective that we should be shining our lights in this darkness.
   This is just a little review of what happens in a week at the DR. I just wanted to share the main points because I can write a book explaining the impact this has made on my life. Because of these trips I want to go into a life on the mission field (Lord willing!) and serve God and tell others about Jesus' love. Thank you so much for making these trips possible for me and I very strongly encourage all of you to take up this opportunity to go serve God in a third world country!

Dear Friends and Family,
I just wanted to take this time and thank each and every one of you for the prayers and support you guys gave me for my recent trip to the Dominican Republic. I can honestly say that every trip I have been on has been the best. I have always been blessed by these trips and each one has been better than the first. The Dominican has shown me what it really is like to live in such sad living situations, but every time I go down there you don’t meet sad people, you meet people that are very loving and that are thankful for being alive. When I go down there people always ask me what the US is like but I really don’t like talking about it because I don’t like them thinking that they have it bad and getting sad. This trip was one of my favorite because I had a chance to have a lot of one-on-one time with God. This year has been very hard for me because since I am a senior I have been worrying about what I am going to do after high school. While being on the trip God showed me that He is always beside us and never leaves us. On this trip I would read my devotions and I read a lot in Deuteronomy, it talks about how God has helped His people live through the struggles as we have and He has enabled them to make it through them. For me this was a really big encouragement because it helps me get through the hard times in life.
I also wanted to encourage each and every one of you to consider attending one of these trips. These trips are life changing. People always ask me what is the Dominican really like, and I always tell them I can show you pictures and try to explain it but you can’t really understand until you experience one yourself. So thank you all for all your prayers and support you have given me and my family members. They mean so much to us. God bless.

Dear Friends and Family,
   Like every Dominican trip that I have gone on, this one was another amazing experience. I'm writing to thank you because without your generous hearts, this trip wouldn't have been possible for my sisters and me. I am truly thankful to know such selfless Christians as yourselves.
   This trip showed me many things. Of course I've been touched by the extreme poverty and conditions that the Dominican and Haitian people live in, but my Christian walk with God has also been transformed and strengthened. On our trip, we mainly spent our time in the Haitian villages because the Haitians that are living in the DR have much worse conditions than most of the Dominicans. Five out of the seven days we traveled down a bumpy, pot-hole filled dirt road for about an hour. Oh, and we were also in the back of trucks. We went through rain, heat, dust, and sometimes the road was flooded into a muddy river. When we got to these villages however, our lives were changed forever by what we saw. The villages that we worked in had sewage everywhere, sick animals, voodoo and witch craft dolls hanging outside houses, naked children, and only one water well. Going into the village was scary at first but the people were some of the sweetest and most welcoming that I've ever met. They were so happy that the 'Americanos' were there to help them. Throughout the week we helped a lot of people, physically and spiritually. We had a construction crew, painting crew, VBS, dentistry, and a prayer group. Throughout the week I worked with the construction guys and the prayer group. I loved working with the construction crew because most of them were men over 45. Even though I thought I'd be bored and have nothing to do while I was with them, I was so glad by the end of the week that I worked with them. Those guys took me under their wing and it was truly a pleasure getting to know them. This was the first trip that I really connected with adults on the trip. As I got to know each of those men, their testimonies really impacted me. One of them, Jeff, had an autistic daughter and he and his wife had dedicated their lives to her. Another man that was a huge testimony to me was Michael. Michael had been in multiple psychiatric wards, clinics, and had been to jail multiple times because of drug addictions, alcohol problems, and theft crimes. Michael got saved when a pastor, Brendan Garner, had ministered to him while he was in jail. Brendan was also on the trip and I loved getting to know him as well. As you can see, one of the things that made my trip amazing was the people that I went with and who I got to know. Another thing that really was great about the trip was that I became a lot closer with my two sisters. As we all grew in our faith, we cried, laughed, and were bonded even closer through God's great love.
   One more thing that I loved was my alone time with God. I really had a full week to focus on my relationship with Him. We had devotions every morning along with a worship time as the sun was rising up. One of the reasons that I love going down to the DR is because I can get away from all the distractions of daily life and get completely isolated from all technology. While I'm there I spend so much time with God. I hope you don't think that I have a horrible Christian walk because that's not what I'm trying to say. I just mean that while I'm down there, my walk with God becomes so much stronger and it's a blessing to have a week to solely focus on Him. The week I was in the DR, I was shown and taught about God's selfless and unending love, and how I have to surrender my life daily to Him. I was refreshed and renewed and, for the first time, I was excited while we were boarding the plane coming back to the US. I was excited because I could take what I had learned that week and put it into practice in my friend groups and my high school. I knew that God would be my strong shoulder and that he'd never leave me or abandon me. It was so great coming back and being able to share what God had done in my life that week.
   In conclusion, I thank you with more than words can describe. The week that I spend in the Dominican each year helps me so much as a Christian. I encourage each of you to go on some kind of mission trip. You will forever be changed.

New Adult Sunday School Classes to Start

Two new Sunday School classes are scheduled to begin Sunday May 22, 2011:

WOMEN: Loving God With All Your Mind - This study will be looking at various promises in the Word of God for women. This will be a video series done by Elizabeth George. The class will be half viewing the video and half discussion. Jan Jaussen will be leading the discussion. Particular application will be made to married life as well. The goal of the class is to help women mature in their faith and to live out their faith in practical ways in their lives and home.

MEN: Godly Men, Godly Leaders, Godly Marriages - This class will focus on the man’s role in marriage. Todd Jaussen will be looking at the unique calling that men have in the home as leaders and what a blessing a godly, loving, servant/leader can be to his home. Many various topics will be discussed over the course of the class. The goal of this class is that Christ will be exalted in our homes and that our families will be richly blessed as we men live up to the standard the Bible has set for us. If you are thinking of being married some day, been married 1 year or 50 plus years there will be something in this class for you.

Save Your Change for a Pro-Life Missionary

Everyone is encouraged to participate in a Pro-Life Missionary change drive by taking home a plastic canister to fill with spare change. Return the canisters and change to the church on Sunday June 19, 2011. The annual Women's Ministry Spring Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday May 10, 2011 at 6:00 pm. Reservations are requested for this catered buffet dinner. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children ages 4 to 10. Reservations will be accepted by Nita Murrin and Cyndi Sankey through Sunday May 1, 2011.

Start Looking for STUFF for the Yard Sale

It seems every year during spring cleaning that we find an accumulation of stuff that we no longer need or want. What can you do with all your unwanted stuff? Donate it! The Women's Ministry Annual Yard and Bake Sale will be held Friday and Saturday June 17-18, 2011.

During the week prior to the sale, donations will be accepted. (No clothing please.) Also that week, volunteers will be needed to set up and fill tables. Details on times and location will be coming later.

Funds raised by the yard and bake sale are used to assist local families in need.

Join us Easter morning as we celebrate the Risen Savior! The day will be begin with a Sunrise Service at 7:15 ~~7:00~~ am including a special presentation by the Youth. Next will be a time for breakfast at 8:00 am. The regular Worship Service will follow at 9:30 ~~9:15~~ am.

Note there will be no Sunday School, Sunday Evening Bible Study, or Youth meeting on Easter to allow you to spend more time with your family on this special day.

Short Term Mission Opportunity Coming to Greenville

This summer there will be a special short term mission opportunity right here in Greenville during the week of June 20-25, 2011. His Work His Way Greenville is a nonprofit Christian community development organization whose purpose includes upholding the dignity of vulnerable homeowners who live in Greenville and neighboring communities. It will be sending out crews of teenage and adult volunteers who will give freely of their time and energy to perform free home repairs for homeowners. The hope is to touch lives with the love of Christ by using paint brushes, hammers, shingles, rakes, and drywall.

Anyone entering 7th grade and above can participate. There will be work available for all ages and skills both on the work crews and behind the scene supporting them.

All participants will have the opportunity to stay at Thiel College during the week to help promote the atmosphere and fellowship of a mission trip. All meals will be provided.

Each participant needs to complete this application form and return it to the address listed or Dave Campbell or Sue Preston as Crossroads. Application forms and participation fee are due by Friday May 6, 2011.

Also needed are projects to work on. If you are (or know of) a homeowner in the area and have home projects or repairs that you are not able to accomplish either due to physical limitations or financial obligations, then please complete this homeowner form and return it by Saturday April 30, 2011.

Pastor Todd Jaussen will be traveling to Zambia Africa from March 3-16, 2011 for the purpose of teaching and encouraging the local indigenous pastors. He will be visiting the areas of Livingstone and Lusaka in Zambia.

Follow Up: Salvation Army Bell Ringing Results
